Colorado - Floods
COLORADO, 2013 FLOODS: In September, 2013 the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains was hit with heavy rains and disastrous flooding causing loss of life and major damage. Twenty -four counties were impacted, more than 18,000 people were evacuated, approximately 28,000 homes were damaged and 1,852 destroyed. Long Term Recovery groups have been established in the three hardest hit counties: Boulder, Larimer and Weld. UMCOR and the Rocky Mountain Conference are assisting with funds and staffing while UMVIM is helping with volunteers.
The recovery from the devastating floods that occurred in Colorado in September is just beginning. Thousands have been significantly impacted by this disaster and they will need help in order to get their lives back to a “new normal”.
Key to helping these individuals and families who survived the flood are volunteers who are willing to step up and make a difference. Rebuilding roads, homes and businesses is important, but there is also a need for volunteers to help flood survivors rebuild their lives.
Teams of volunteers are needed to complete a variety tasks related to assisting flood survivors with cleaning up and rebuilding their property.
If you are a trained UMVIM team leader and have a team of volunteers that would like to help with flood clean-up and rebuilding activities, contact Deb Campbell at firstname.lastname@example.org with the size and skill sets of your team as well as when and how long you are available. Be sure to register your trip here on this website by contacting UMVIM@calnevumc.org.
If you would like to be an UMVIM team member please contact the outreach or mission team leader at your church to get in contact with a team leader.
