World Communion Sunday, one of The United Methodist Church’s six churchwide Special Sundays with offerings, calls on us to reach out to all people and model diversity. It is observed on the first Sunday in October (Oct 7, this year) and provides funding for:
- World Communion Scholarships (with at least half the annual amount going to ministries beyond the United States),
- the Ethnic Scholarship Program, and
- the Ethnic In-Service Training Program.
The treasurer of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) distributes net receipts of the offering to the administering agencies. The World Communion Scholarships fund is administered by the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM); the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) administers the latter two.
A multitude of resources for the local church – from videos and bulletins to preaching aids and Facebook cards – are available here
from United Methodist Communications.
