UMW: Interrupting the Cradle to Prison Pipeline

July 30, 2020

Join California-Nevada Conference United Methodist Women for a special virtual webinar on Interrupting the Cradle to Prison Pipeline on Saturday August 15th from 10a to noon PDT.

UMW will feature presenters Pastor Holly Hillman, Burlingame UMC, and Carl Pinkston, community organizer with the Black Parallel School Board.

Carl’s talk will cover the role of education in racial capitalism, the school to prison pipeline in the Sacramento City Unified School District, and education justice movements. Pastor Holly will share her experiences with Kairos Prison Ministries, review the biblical characters who endured prison, expose the need for prison reform, and provide ways participants can make a difference.

Following each presentation, there will be time for questions. During breakout groups, participants will have an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for action.

You can participate in the Zoom meeting using your smart phone, your computer or laptop, or tablet. You can also join simply by calling the designated number – although sometimes the results are unsatisfactory. If you are able to meet in small groups at your church or in someone’s home, this will provide the opportunity for those without the required technology to participate.
