Registration Opens for Gathering of the Orders

October 24, 2019

Registration for the 2020 Gathering of the Orders retreat is open now on the California-Nevada Conference website. The gathering will take place January 28-30, 2020 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Livermore, California.
In keeping with the Book of Discipline, Bishop Minerva Carcaño calls the Orders to gather for a time of retreat, learning, and strengthening relationships with each other while continuing on the journey of ministry. The bishop’s invitation extends to elders, deacons, provisional members, commissioned members, licensed local pastors serving under appointment, retired clergy of the Cal-Nev Annual Conference, clergy of other annual conferences, and ministers of other denominations who are serving in the Cal-Nev Conference.
The theme, "Casting Our Nets," is taken from John 21:1-6 and builds on the 2019 Annual Conference Session theme, “In the Boat with Jesus.”
“We will also engage the story from the perspective of the fish we are not catching,” writes Rev. Kathy La Point-Collup (left), co-chair of the Order of Elders. “Casting Our Nets encourages us all to be caught by the Spirit of our Living God!”
As at past Gatherings, Bishop Carcaño will lead attendees in Holy Communion and a time of sharing. Through worship, workshops, small groups, and new experiences, those attending will be reaffirmed in their covenant relationships and the endless possibility of ministry, La Point-Collup says.
The group also will journey to Campo Di Bocce on Wednesday evening for dinner, the opportunity to play bocce ball (lessons will be available), and fellowship. The entire venue has been reserved for the evening, including the outdoor cluster spaces around fireplaces.
An important change this year is that participants are responsible for making their own arrangements for accommodations. There are no hotel blocks this year.
Cost of the event is $178. Payment must be received in full by the close of registration, Jan. 6, 2020.
Late registrations will not be accepted.

Scholarships are available for deacons and elders in ATEM or ABLC appointments who do not have a professional reimbursement budget, and scholarships for retired clergy are available through the Retired Clergy Association (RCA).
