UMCOR Impact: Local Churches Connect in Mission

March 06, 2020

If you have ever wondered about the power and impact of local church communities connected in mission, keep reading....

In the summer of 2019 Linda Gates, member of Federated Church in Placerville, CA, challenged church communities in the Great Northern District to participate in an UMCOR Hygiene Kit Drive with the goal of actually driving to the UMCOR depot in Salt Lake City, Utah and delivering the kits in person.

Kit assembly at Federated UMC was led by the children’s ministry and the kits were blessed during worship. After gathering 300 kits from Foothills UMC Linda Gates and Mary Morisset packed the car with Federated’s 300 kits and we were ready to start their sacred journey to UMCOR.

Once in Nevada, Linda and Marty collected almost 100 more kits from churches in Yerington and Winnemucca. They arrived at the UMCOR depot in Salt Lake City and started unloading the hygiene kits with help from UMCOR staff.

Linda, Mary and all who contributed to assemble and deliver the kits should be celebrated as an example of local church families connecting and making a difference in communities down the street and across the world.
