Leadership Spotlight - Jim Frey
The Leadership Mission Focus Area will begin spotlighting leaders throughout the California-Nevada Annual Conference. The goal of "Leadership Spotlight" is to show who we are, "normal everyday people with a calling from God, to do God's work, in God's world." To nominate someone, a project, or mission, contact the Rev. Scott Gessford, email@example.com.
Jim Frey receives joy and pleasure from serving God and The United Methodist Church in Yreka and the Great Northern District of the conference as co-chair of the district's Lay Servant Ministries Committee and as the Great Northern District's School for Lay Servant Ministries. Lay Servant Ministries training classes are now being offered regularly at training centers in Roseville, Redding, and in the Reno-Sparks area. He is a skilled discussion leader and speaker who feels honored by actively participating in ministries that are responding to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
Frey also contributes leadership skills and time as a member of the district's Kid's Camp at Shasta Camp, a parking lot greeter Sunday mornings, and with Yreka UMC's weekly sack lunch distribution ministry. Every Sunday afternoon for the past four years, Yreka UMC has been sharing God's Grace and about 150 lunches on a Main Street parking lot. "We are there no matter what, rain, shine, snow, or ice ... we were there on Main street to hand out lunches."
He is also a regular at the Shasta camp to help out the children in the summer. Frey has a big heart and tries his best to make sure he is always on the ball and fulfilling all of the promises and commitments that he puts his mind to. He and his wife enjoy going to visit their grandson and make that a major priority in his life. Frey is also active in the Walk to Emmaus in Northern California.
