February 05, 2016

Gerald Emmett Wrenn
Jan. 21, 1952 - Jan. 31, 2016
Resident of Hayward
Wrenn served as the California-Nevada Conference Youth Director from 1990 to 1994.

Jerry grew up in Castro Valley, living the typical life of the Bay Area post-war baby boom generation: Little League, Boy Scouts, Sunday School, Giants baseball, developing a life-long love of super hero comics and baseball memorabilia.

He held a variety of jobs over the years but most enjoyed his work with children and youth as a youth director and early childhood associate teacher. He was a proud veteran of the US Army.
An ardent progressive, Jerry was a strong believer in volunteer work and helped a large variety of organizations over the years including the Boy Scouts of America, the South Hayward Parish Food Bank, LGBT causes and Walnut Creek Bus Stop program. He was a lifelong Methodist and an active member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 32 years, Joan Wrenn of Hayward; son Michael, daughters Elizabeth, Erryn Yaacobi and her husband Zohar; mother-in-law Faith Richardson; sister Nancy Edelhuber, and sisters-in-law Marsha and Marla Richardson. He was the adored Grandpa Jerry to Joshua, Jacob, Jaret and Jed Harrington, Jaret's wife Ariel and many others he welcomed into his life and considered family. He was preceded in death by parents Emmett and Betty Wrenn, and his stepson Drew Harrington.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2 p.m., at Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, 1543 Sunnyvale Ave., Walnut Creek, with reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to an organization of your choice.

Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.
