First UMC Reno Brings in Brian McLaren for ‘Shining Lights’ Symposium

First United Methodist Church of Reno will host renowned Christian progressive and global activist Brian McLaren for a daylong symposium, Shining Lights on a Guided Path, on Saturday, October 12, 2019.
A former college English teacher and pastor, McLaren is an Auburn Senior Fellow, the author of more than a dozen books, and a leader in Convergence, a mobilizing collective rooted in a just and generous Christian spirituality. This event will focus primarily on the ideas presented in his book, The Great Spiritual Migration: How the World's Largest Religion Is Seeking a Better Way to Be Christian.
It also will feature breakout sessions with innovative regional religious and community leaders, including Great Northern District Superintendent Rev. Blake Busick; justice advocate and organizer Rev. Jeanelle Nicolas Ablola; Rev. Rob Rynders, co-author of The Sacred Secular and a co-founder of City Square Church and The Lead Conference; Rev. Jennifer Goto; and Nevadans for the Common Good. 
Shining Lights on a Guided Path will take place 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, with breakout sessions at various locations in the two cities. Carpooling to breakout sessions is advised. A book signing session with Brian McLaren, 5:45-6:30 p.m., will culminate the event.
