Fair Oaks UMC Seeks to Mitigate Effects of Government Shutdown

January 23, 2019

The current partial shutdown of the federal government is the longest on record, underway for nearly five weeks now, and with no end in view. Federal employees constitute those in the first wave of impact, bearing the initial financial brunt of the shutdown – although its ripple effect extends well beyond those workers, touching all aspects of the economy.
United Methodist churches are responding to the crisis. Read Jim Patterson’s story, Furloughed government workers turn to the church, here.
Here in the California-Nevada Annual Conference, Fair Oaks United Methodist Church is offering limited financial assistance to federal workers. The church is asking for a government ID or previous pay stub to confirm federal employment.
People meeting the criteria who need assistance should call 916-961-6631. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. If you call after hours, please leave a voicemail message for the administrative assistant.
