By Lee Neish
Vice chair, Cmte. on Nominations and Connectional Leadership Development
Our denomination is facing challenges unprecedented in our lifetime. The need for listening, learning spiritual leaders – both lay and clergy – across our annual conference has never been greater. How we chart our course over the next four years will greatly determine the effectiveness of our mission to empower congregations to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and to transform lives in local and global communities.
On June 30, 2020, many of our conference leaders will “term out” of the committees, boards, and agencies they’ve served. Maybe you are one of those persons. Or you may have served in a conference leadership position in the past but currently do not occupy such a role. Perhaps you’ve never served in such a position! Whichever of these circumstances describes your situation, this invitation is meant for you!
Please pray through the four categories of mission focus areas as well as those committees, boards, and agencies representing connectional resources. Ask God if this is a time for you to step forward and offer your leadership in one or several of the opportunities to which you feel drawn.

Feel free to contact the current chairperson whose committee, board, or agency may capture your interest. And always please contact any of us who serve on your Committee on Nominations and Connectional Leadership Development for assistance in discernment and/or application procedures.
As you may understand, your passion and interest are but two of many factors your committee considers in filling positions on these committees, boards, and agencies. If you are not chosen for nomination to the committee that is your first choice, please do not take that as rejection. We will be praying for the best placement we can determine given criteria established in our standing rules.
But please don’t wait! This fall is an excellent time for you to respond requesting consideration for a position(s) that will become effective July 1, 2020. The sooner you act, the more helpful it will be to us as we strive to make the most effective determination of the next generation of leadership across our annual conference.
In most cases, you’ll be applying for nomination to a four-year term ending June 30, 2024. But just as is the case in the local church, should circumstances prevent you from serving your entire term, we will be most responsive to relieving you of your leadership responsibilities.
Please come dream with us! We look forward to hearing from you.
