Children’s Weekly Prayer Challenge: Week 1

November 05, 2020

The African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” (i) is an affirmation to Jesus’ teaching of prioritizing the children in our community. The saying of Jesus that, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs,” (ii) is an invitation for us in the connection of our California-Nevada Conference to make the Kingdom of God be realized when we minister to the children to lead them in the path of the fullness of life integrity and identity.

The Prayer Challenge through the Word (Scripture), Wisdom (Voice, quote, saying) and Prayer is being offered for us all to be collective prayers for the children in our churches and our communities in the global United Methodist Church.

Let us join in Word, Wisdom and Prayer: November 5, 2020, Trauma and Stress from the Impact of COVID-19.

Word Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall, I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid? (iii)

Wisdom United Nations Policy Brief:

The Impact of COVID-19 on Children

Children are not the face of this pandemic. But they risk being among its biggest victims. While they have thankfully been largely spared from the direct health effects of COVID-19 – at least to date- the crisis is having a profound effect on their well-being. All children, of all ages, and in all countries, are being affected, in particular by the socio-economic impacts and, in some cases, by mitigation measures that may inadvertently do more harm than good. This is a universal crisis and, for some children, the impact will be lifelong. Moreover, the harmful effects of this pandemic will not be distributed equally. They are expected to be most damaging for children in the poorest countries, and in the poorest neighborhoods, and for those in already disadvantaged and vulnerable situations.

Prayer: Pray for:

· Children infected with COVID-19
· Children who know someone dealing with COVID-19
· Children whose parents are front liners
·Children being abused while sheltering in place and spending more time at home
