A Place to Hear God's Call
On February 16, 2019, Bishop Minerva Carcaño led the Bishop's Confirmation Rally for the Central Valley District at United Japanese Christian Church (UJCC) in Clovis, California. The bishop, together with the Rev. Debra Brady, District Superintendent for the Central Valley District, welcomed the confirmands, mentors, and clergy: A total of about 65 people. Bishop Carcaño led the worship in the morning and gave a message on personal holiness, love, and the call to become disciples of Jesus Christ, using John 3:16 as her reference to emphasize the love of God and God's call.
The Rev. Akiko Miyake-Stoner, lead pastor of UJCC, Sungrae Kim, the youth ministry pastor, along with some church volunteers hosted the Bishop's Confirmation Rally with radical hospitality. It was a day of listening to stories of confirmation, with games for fun and team building and exercises on John Wesley's Quadrilateral.
Bishop Carcaño shared in the afternoon worship, focusing on social holiness, and concluded with the celebration of Communion and presentation of Bibles and wooden crosses to all the confirmands.
In a December 2018 article in the Instant Connection,
Fel Cao, Director of Camping and Retreat Ministries and Young Peoples Ministry, is quoted as saying, "The mission of The United Methodist Church in the global connection is, ‘Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.’ I call upon our clergy and lay to collaborate with us in the ministry of ‘Making Young
Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,’ through Confirmation.”
This weekend (March 30) Bishop Carcaño will lead the Bishop's Confirmation Rally for the Great Northern District at Lake Tahoe UMC Retreat. We lift up the confirmands who, with the guidance of their mentors and pastors, begin their journey to discern the call of God to become disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world.
