Mission handcrafts sale: a Sonoma UMC tradition

December 17, 2020

Sonoma United Methodist Church has held a Mission Handcrafts (formerly Bolivian Handcrafts) sale every year since 1992. The tradition continued in early December 2020 in spite of COVID-19.

Handicrafts from around the world were displayed on tables set up out of doors in the church patio, and masked shoppers came, observed social distancing, used hand sanitizer and/or gloves and purchased unique items for gifts and for home.

As a result of the sale, $300 will be sent to UM Advance #00430A – Bolivia Undesignated. The UMVIM India project at Davis UMC will receive $140; UM Advance #3020890 – Women’s Leadership Training in Cambodia will receive $60; and $295 will be sent to UM Advance #01138A – Global Ministries Where Most Needed. These gifts bring the total mission support from sales since 1996 to $113,156.

When conditions allow in 2021, the Mission Handcrafts Sale Coordinator will once again be happy to receive requests from local churches wanting to schedule handicraft sales to benefit artisans and UM missions in many countries around the world. Please contact Sandra Metzger, sgmetzger@att.net or call 707-938-8373 for more information.
