Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño will join California Industrial Area Foundation (IAF) leaders for a virtual statewide action on Tuesday May 5th at 5:45p.
There 8 Industrial Area Foundation (IAF) broad-based organizations and sponsoring committees in California that have been working in concert to press Governor Newsom and the state legislature to provide more funds to support families who are facing economic hardship due to the pandemic.
Specifically, IAF and their partners are calling on Governor Newsom to expand the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) to undocumented workers and their families. Undocumented workers pay an estimated $3.2 billion in state and local taxes, yet they are not eligible for the federal stimulus checks or unemployment insurance. Expanding the CalEITC would provide much-needed cash to all low-wage workers, including many who work in essential industries.
The May 5 action will engage key legislators, bishops, and a representative from Governor Newsom's office. The agenda will include brief teaching, stories, commitments, and next steps.
Pre-registration is required and attendance is capped at 1,000 participants.
