Bishop Carcaño Responds to Mass Shooting in Gilroy, Calls for Gun Control

July 29, 2019

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño has posted a special message in response to the mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival over the weekend.

“We mourn the deaths of four persons, including the perpetrator, and the injuring of many others,” the bishop writes, adding that prayers have been extended “from as far as Cuba.”
Pastor Hwapyoung Kang was able to determine that all members of Gilroy United Methodist Church apparently escaped harm in the tragedy, the bishop reports.

She concludes: “Let us all continue to pray for the families of the Gilroy community, among them the members of our own church.

“Let us also continue to pray and work for peace …. The need for gun control must certainly be part of the response to these situations.”
