Professor Munashe Furusa, the Fourth Vice Chancellor of Africa University passed away this morning, Wednesday January 13th.
In a statement posted today, Africa University called on all university staff, students, alumni, and partners to lift up prayers to God for VC Furusa’s wife, Dr. Zanele Furusa, their children, and extended family.
In this time of mourning, we are asked to remember VC Furusa's love for others, his inspired vision, and dreams for Africa University as well as for the whole of the continent of Africa.
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño has long served on the Board of Directors of Africa University alongside Vice Chancellor Furusa. She informed us that the Board of Directors of Africa University met early this morning for prayer and to set in motion a compassionate and pastoral response to the grieving family of VC Furusa and the extended Africa University family.
She shared, “My heart is broken. VC Furusa was a true servant leader who never lost his conviction to or passion for the dream that is Africa University. He was a joyful and brilliant yet humble leader who in 6 years by God’s grace transformed Africa University and led it to a place of excellence that was recognized, in Zimbabwe, across Africa and internationally. My prayer is that we will continue to build on VC Furusa’s faithful and sacrificial labor for the sake of the young people who depend on Africa University and to the glory of God.”
Let us remember our colleagues across the globe that are grieving this significant loss and know that today, although Vice Chancellor Munashe Furusa has passed away from us, he has passed on to Glory and God’s eternal care.
