On Christmas day Laurel UMC went out in streets of Oakland to give away more than 60 blankets to the homeless. In addition, the youth sang carols and the Laurel choir sang the "Hallelujah Chorus." Throughout the month of December, the congregations collected blankets and felt that it was fitting to pass them out on Christmas day. The youth also gave up their annual gift giving party and used those funds to purchase more blankets. "We want to make sure that even on holidays the hands and feet of Jesus are still at work, and we can go home today knowing that 60 people can sleep a little warmer tonight," said the Rev. Sifa Hingano, the church's pastor.
