Film Screening: "Witness at Tornillo" & Sanctuary Rising"

Saturday, February 29, 2020: One man from Brooklyn finds himself in a West Texas desert, compelled to witness the cruelty of family separation and child detention on the US southern border. "Witness at Tornillo," a Carbon Trace Production, is a documentary film that follows Josh Rubin, a border activist who plants himself outside the child detention center in Tornillo, Texas. Rubin draws national attention to the facility and helps to shut it down. Today, Rubin is in Matamoros, Mexico, witnessing the inhumane conditions caused by Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy. Taye Taye, videographer and editor of Witness at Tornillo, will be on hand to answer questions. "Sanctuary Rising" is an intimate portrait of two undocumented mothers who enter Sanctuary in their local churches and continue to fight for legal status. Filmmaker Theo Rigby will be present to show a trailer and talk about next steps to complete the film.
