Local Church Pays 100% of Local School’s Lunch Debt
Each year Fair Oaks United Methodist Church (Fair Oaks UMC) donates the offering received at the Christmas Eve service to one of many outreach ministries that are supported year-round. Ministries range from local homeless support to national disaster relief to international sustainable living campaigns.
For 2019 Fair Oaks UMC decided to step out of their comfort zone and step up their Christmas giving from a 1-night offering collection to a month-long campaign. From November 24 – December 24, specified donations collected on Sundays, through the mail, and at the Christmas Eve service, were dedicated to pay the student lunch debt at Deterding Elementary in Carmichael, CA.
Fair Oaks UMC began the month-long campaign with the goal of raising $2,939 to pay the entire lunch debt as it stood in October of 2019. By the end of December a total of $4,060 was raised for Deterding Elementary! The check will be presented to Deterding Principal Melanie Allen at the 10 am worship service on Sunday, January 26. All are welcome to attend.
