Rev. Yon Sil Yu

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, 
 
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Rev. Yon Sil Yu, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
 
Yon Sil served the Korean UMC in San Francisco (associate); Korean Fellowship in Vacaville; Wesley Korean in San Francisco; Hillsdale UMC in San Mateo; Aldersgate in South San Francisco; the UM Korean Ministry of Western Nevada; and the Korean Ministry of Reno, Nevada before retiring in 2004.  
 
Yon Sil attended the Sung-kewn-kwan University and Methodist Seminary in Seoul, Korea before immigrating with her family to the United States in 1975. She also completed graduate school at Scarritt Bennett in Nashville, as well as San Francisco Theological Seminary. Yon Sil had a love of learning and reading, and worked as a librarian for the Methodist Seminary in Korea. She and her beloved husband were married for 57 years.
 
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Suk-Chong Yu; her son, Joon-Ho Yu, and his wife, Rebecca Engrav; by her sisters, Eun Sil and Sung Sil of South Korea; and by three grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to Suk-Chong Yu at 133 32nd Avenue E., Seattle, WA 98112.  
 
A memorial service is planned for January 2020, specific date and time to be determined soon.
 
Gifts in memory of Yon Sil may be designated for the Suk-Chong Yu scholarship fund or for Korean New Church Development  and sent to the United Methodist Center at PO Box 980250, West Sacramento, CA 95798-0250. 
 
Let us continue to give God thanks for Yon Sil’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
