Rev. Sun-Yong Park

9/30/2018

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother Rev. Sun-Yong Park died on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

Sun-Yong served in the Pennsylvania-Delaware, Southern Indiana, East Ohio, and Minnesota conferences before transferring into our conference in 1997, where he served the Marina: Canaan Korean United Methodist Church before retiring in 2008.

He loved to draw and enjoyed traveling to the ocean for walks on the beach. Sung-Yong had a great sense of humor, and even in his last days he joked and laughed with those who visited. Though it is the Korean custom to have a solemn memorial service, it was his wish to have a celebration, with the last song being “Oh Happy Day!”

He is survived by his wife, Eun-Sook Park, his faithful partner in ministry; his daughter Lina and her husband, Dae Lee, of Walnut Creek, CA; and his daughter Anna and her husband, David Cho, of Rockville, Maryland. Condolences may be sent to Eun-Sook Park at 1776 Mescal Street, Seaside, CA 93955.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 8, at 5 p.m. at Canaan Korean United Methodist Church, 281 Beach Road, Marina, CA 93933. Rev. Sanghyun Lee will preside.

Gifts in memory of Sun-Yong may be sent to:

Western Jurisdiction Korean United Methodist Church Association
% Rev. Hyesung Kang
2608 Tierra Grande Circle
Sacramento, CA  95827

Let us continue to give God thanks for Sun-Yong’s life and witness, and hold his family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
