Rev. Richard Plain

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
 
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. Richard “Rick” Plain, died on Sunday, August 5, 2018.  
 
Rick served the Forestville, Dutch Flat & Meadow Vista, Sacramento: Trinity, Superintendent: Fresno District, Palo Alto: St. Andrews (LFT), and Los Altos churches. He retired in 2010.
 
Rick loved working with stained glass and had recently donated a beautiful piece to St. Andrews UMC in Palo Alto where it hangs today. He also enjoyed long walks with friends, singing in the choir and supporting young families in his congregations by starting a “Parents Night Out” program.  One parishioner who was especially touched by his concern and care of her established the “Rick Plain Endowed Scholarship Fund.”  This fund, which continues to grow has provided support for three African women to complete their education at Africa University.
 
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Plain of Cupertino, and by his children, Christopher Plain and spouse Temple Plain of Bainbridge Island, WA, Mikhael Plain of New York, NY, Timothy Plain and spouse Miki Plain of San Francisco, CA, Genevieve Plain of New York, NY, and Nathaniel Plain of Cupertino, CA.
 
Condolences may be sent to Marlene Plain at 10736 Farallone Drive, Cupertino, CA  95014.  The memorial service will be private.  Gifts in memory of Rick may be sent to Africa University: the Rick Plain Endowed Scholarship Fund, Africa University Development Office, Attn: Elaine Jenkins, P.O. Box 340007, Nashville, TN 37203-0007.
 
Let us continue to give God thanks for Rick’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer.  In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
