Rev. John Albright

3/9/2022

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. John Albright, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

John began his ministry in the Kansas East and Little Rock Conferences. He transferred to the California-Nevada Conference in 1961, where he served Corning UMC; Redding, First UMC; Merced UMC; San Jose, Cambrian Park UMC; and Fremont, First UMC. He retired in 1993.

John was born in Madison, Kansas on July 28, 1926. He was a passionate advocate of social justice causes, especially dismantling racism and sexism. In his late 40s he served on the draft board as a pastor, advocating for the status of conscientious objection to war. He was a state champion distance runner in college and sometimes used his affinity for running as a fundraising tool for the churches he served. He enjoyed roller coasters and bad puns. John and his wife Lois were both small aircraft pilots.

John is survived by his children: Rev. Janette Saavedra of Geyserville CA, Jean Daz of Neodesha KA, Elizabeth Kallquist of San Leandro CA, John Albright Jr. of Redding CA, and Dr. Mary Sims of Winston MT, and by 4 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren by marriage. He was predeceased by his wife Lois in 2020.

The family plans a video-based celebration, at a time yet to be determined.

Gifts in memory of John may be sent to the Retired Clergy Association, online at https://ca-nv-rca.org/donations/ or mailed to Retired Clergy Association, 9328 Elk Grove Blvd., #105-141, Elk Grove, CA  95624

Let us continue to give God thanks for John’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer.
