Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. James Horton died on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Through his long life as a missionary, pastor, and professor Jim sought to live true to his favorite scripture:
“What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
James served in the Pacific Northwest conference and various ministries in Africa before transferring to the California Nevada Conference in 1980, where he served churches in the Central Valley and for 25 years at Shasta Lake UMC before retiring in 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Horton, of Redding, CA, and by three children: Randall Horton of Los Gatos, CA, Suzanne Mathieu of Redwood City, CA, and Jeffrey Horton of Brentwood Bay, BC Canada. Condolences may be sent to Norma Horton at 5319 Stonethrow Court, Redding, CA 96003.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Shasta Lake United Methodist Church. District Superintendent David Samelson and Certified Lay Minster Tara Macy will preside.
Let us continue to give God thanks for James’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
