It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. Dr. John W. Taylor died on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. John was very involved with Heifer Project, International, and he traveled all over the world delivering animals with them. He once met Mother Teresa, and was profoundly moved by the experience. Later in life, John began a new mission outreach to the Philippines, where he traveled extensively. He established a scholarship fund to help impoverished students there. This scholarship supports over 20 high school, and several college and vocational students. John’s passion was helping others around the world.
John began his ministry in the Oregon Idaho, the Illinois Great Rivers, and Northern Illinois Conferences before transferring to California Nevada Conference in 1960, where he served the Martinez: First, Sacramento: Centennial, Modesto: First, Pittsburg, Fremont: First, and the Vallejo: Fellowship churches before retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalena Taylor, and by his five children: Janice Maggiora of Palo Alto, CA, Jim Taylor of El Dorado Hills, CA, Jerry Taylor of Texarcana, TX, John Taylor of Reno, NV, and Jess Taylor of Ripon, CA; by twelve Grandchildren, six Great-grandchildren, and by one Great- great-grandchild. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, at 1:00 pm, at Centennial United Methodist Church, 5401 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822.
