Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. Darrell Darling, died on Thursday February 3, 2022.
Darrell transferred to the California-Nevada Conference from the Central Illinois Conference in 1966. In this Conference, he served congregations in Dublin, Pleasanton, Davis, and Santa Cruz, First United Methodist Church. Darrell retired in 1990.
Darrell was born in Illinois. He was an avid gardener and a lover of poetry, composing a large collection of original poems over the years. Darrell and his wife, Karen, owned and operated The Darling House, a bed and breakfast on the Monterey Bay, for decades. Darrell was a dedicated and well-known progressive, community leader. While pastoring the Davis United Methodist Church, he was elected to serve on the local school board.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Karen Darling, and by his daughter Denise Wyldbore, and by one grandchild. He was predeceased by his two sons, Matthew (d. 1986) and Adam (d. 1996.) Condolences may be sent to Karen Darling at 1948 Merrill Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
Plans for a memorial service are pending.
Gifts in memory of Darrell may be sent to the Santa Cruz NAACP at naacpsantacruz.com/donate, or to the Resource for Non Violence in Santa Cruz at rcnv.org .
Let us continue to give God thanks for Darrell’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
