Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. Charles T. Smith, died on Monday, September 23, 2019.

Charles served the First: Richmond, Weldon, Jackson, Eureka, Nevada City, Crescent City, and First: Turlock churches.

Charles enjoyed writing and was a published poet. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fly fishing with his wife, Nikki, on the Klamath River. Charles was passionate about people and made deep connections with people at every church he served. He was well known for his ability to weave stories and humor into his sermons as well as integrating Wesleyan theology into his preaching, teaching, and living.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy (“Nikki”) Nickalou-Smith; his children, Zachariah Charles Smith and his wife, Tara Smith, and Nate Rinne and his wife, Kate Rinne; and by four grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to the family at 602 Martin Way, Eureka, CA 95503.

A memorial service will be held on November 2, 2019 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Eureka.

Gifts in memory of Charles may be sent to the American Cancer Society using the following link: https://donate3.cancer.org.

Let us continue to give God thanks for Charles’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
