Rev. C. Ray Alderman

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. C. Ray Alderman, died on Friday, June 15, 2018.
Ray began his ministry in the Central Texas and North Texas conferences. He transferred into the California Nevada conference in 1978, where he served Cupertino, Bakersfield: St. Marks, Exeter, and the Fresno: Sierra Vista churches until retiring in 2001.
Rev. Alderman served in the Army before beginning his service to the Lord.  Upon graduating from Texas Wesleyan and Southern Methodist Universities, he became the longest serving pastor of St. Marks UMC.  He married his wife Carolyn in 1967 and to avoid confusion began going by “Ray” rather than Carroll.  The two shared their life and love with their daughter and son until Carolyn’s passing.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Lara, and his son Marc Alderman, both of Bakersfield, CA, and by two Grandchildren. Ray’s wife Carolyn predeceased him in 1995. Condolences may be sent to Susan Lara, 4801 Remington Park Drive, Bakersfield, CA  93312.
A Memorial service was held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at RiverLakes Community Church in Bakersfield, CA, with a reception following at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Bakersfield CA.
Memorial gifts in honor of Ray may be sent to CROP Walk, Church World Service, 28606 Phillips Street, P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN  46515, or to Our League of Dreams, 7737 Meany Avenue, Suite B5, Bakersfield, CA  93308.
Let us continue to give God thanks for Ray’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer.  In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
