Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Rev. Ardith Allread, died on July 21, 2022.
Ardith served Concord UMC; Fremont, St. Paul; Rocklin, Cornerstone Community; Woodland UMC; and as the Superintendent for the former San Jose District from 1994 to 2002. She retired in 2013.
Ardith was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 30, 1943. She started school in a one room schoolhouse near Red Bluff, CA near her grandparents’ ranch where her parents’ circus animals (an elephant, big cats and monkeys) wintered. Her grandmother was instrumental to Ardith’s faith development and introduced her to the United Methodist Church. Ardith was a voracious reader of mysteries, often reading two to three a week. She was a weaver and spinner since her college days and took great delight in teaching weaving classes to beginners.
She is survived by her husband, Gregg Atkins, and her children, Peter Coolidge (and spouse Erika) of Pleasanton, CA, Joshua Coolidge of Berkeley CA, and Jocelyn Michelsen (and spouse Paul) of Oakland CA, and by 6 grandchildren.
A memorial service for Ardith will be held on Saturday September 17, 2022 at Woodland United Methodist Church, at 1:00 pm.
Gifts in memory of Ardith may be given to the Woodland United Methodist Church, 620 North Street, Woodland CA 95695, or to the New Church Development Fund of the California-Nevada Conference of The United Methodist Church, 1350 Halyard Drive, West Sacramento CA 95691.
Let us continue to give God thanks for Ardith’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
