Lillian Bea Cunningham

11/25/2019

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Lillian Bea Cunningham, spouse of Rev. Donald J. Cunningham, died on November 25, 2019.

Lillian was a faithful companion as her husband served as pastor at the churches of Chowchilla, Dairyland, Woodside Road in Redwood City, and First UMC Oakland; as Shasta District superintendent; as the conference program council director; and at the Burlingame church until retiring in 1998.

Lillian was a schoolteacher for preschool through elementary-age children and she had a great compassion and concern for the welfare of all children. Lillian loved music and played the piano and organ. She also sang with the Oakland Symphony Chorus and the California Retired Teachers Chorus of the East Bay area.

She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Jana Cunningham of Woodland, CA, Michele Nicol of San Rafael, CA, Nanette Joyce of Sacramento, CA, Charla Cunningham of Portland, OR, and Michael Cunningham of Antioch, CA; and by 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her son Ron Cunningham predeceased her in 2004. Condolences may be sent to Don Cunningham at 3238 San Jose Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501.

A celebration of Lillian’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Twin Towers UMC, Alameda, CA. Rev. Emily Lin will preside.

Gifts in memory of Lillian may be sent to Save the Children Foundation, https://support.savethechildren.org/site/Donation, or to Twin Towers UMC, 1411 Oak Street, Alameda, CA 94501.

Let us continue to give God thanks for Lillian’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
