Jean Baker

1/19/2019

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Jean Baker, spouse of the Rev. Dale Baker, died on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

Jean was a faithful companion as her husband served in the Nebraska, Northern Illinois, and Oregon-Idaho conferences before transferring to what is today the California-Nevada Conference in 1963. In our conference they served Grace Church in Santa Cruz, and Forest Hill and First churches in Pacific Grove, before retiring in 1988.

Jean and Dale were married for 73 years. They met at a Bible school during high school but had known of each other since second grade. Jean was passionate about writing and stayed connected to people through beautifully written personal notes and letters. She was a school teacher for more than 30 years and had an impact on countless students’ lives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons David Baker of Lakeside, Oregon and Don Baker of Jackson, Wyoming, and by many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Douglas Baker. Condolences may be sent to Dale Baker at 551 Gibson Avenue, Apt. 331, Pacific Grove, CA 93950.

The memorial service is scheduled for February 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of the Wayfarer, Lincoln Street and 7th Avenue, Carmel, CA 93921. The Rev. Luke Ham will preside.

Gifts in honor of Jean may be sent to the scholarship fund at Church of the Wayfarer, Lincoln Street and 7th Avenue, Carmel, CA 93921.

Let us continue to give God thanks for Jean’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8).
