Georgiana Summers

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Georgiana “Georgie” Summers, spouse of Rev. Gerald Summers, died on March 31, 2022.
Georgie was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 2, 1928. She held a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English and Drama, and authored Sunday School curriculum published by the United Methodist Publishing House. She wrote and directed many religious dramas and children’s Christmas pageants. She was also passionate about social justice issues, most recently, the cause of health care reform and the single payer initiative. She received a Bishop’s Award at the 2007 Annual Conference session.
Georgie was a faithful companion to her husband as he began his ministry in the former Southern California-Arizona conference, and then upon his transfer to the California-Nevada conference where he served the Quincy, Paradise, Montague, Yreka, and Marysville churches before retiring in 1993.
Georgie is survived by her husband Gerald, and her children David Summers of Sun City AZ, Doug Summers of Chico CA, and Sally Summers of Chico CA, by 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1 pm at Chico, Trinity UMC at 285 E. 5th Street, Chico, CA 95928.
Gifts in memory of Georgie may be sent to Chico, Trinity UMC at the above address.
Let us continue to give God thanks for Georgie’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer.  In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
