Dorothy “Dotty” Dale

3/10/2020

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Dorothy “Dotty” Dale, spouse of Rev. Alfred Dale Jr., died on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

Dotty was a faithful companion as her husband Alfred served in the predecessor body of what is today the California-Pacific Conference before transferring to our area in 1954.  Among us he served San Leandro, St. Francis & Wesley churches in San Francisco, and Live Oak church in Santa Cruz.  He also served as UM Campus Minister at San Francisco State University and the University of California, and at the San Francisco Medical School.  He then served with the General Board of Global Ministries in mission assignments to Poland & Fiji until retiring in 1991.

Dotty was a gifted pre-school teacher and established pre-schools in every community where they lived. She was on faculty for more than a decade at the Kennedy King Community College in Chicago. Last year she was one of only 52 women honored by the Whatcom County of the state of Washington’s League of Women Voters for her service.  Dotty loved spending time with her family and was a passionate advocate for social justice and peace.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Dale of Chicago IL, Ana Gobledale of Salisbury UK, and by Rev. Eric Dale pastor of Petaluma UMC, in our Los Rios District, by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to her son, Rev. Eric Dale at 6537 Center Street, Forestville, CA  95436.

A memorial service is tentatively planned for July 19, 2020 at the First Congregational Church UCC, in Bellingham WA.

Gifts in memory of Dotty may be sent to the First Congregational Church, 2401 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225, to the Whatcom County Peace Center at whatcompjc.org or to the Methodist Federation for Social Action at https://www.mfsaweb.org/donate

Let us continue to give God thanks for Dotty’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer.  In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)

Blessings,

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño
