Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Vieira, spouse of Rev. Gilbert Vieira, died on Friday, December 7, 2018.
Dottie was a faithful companion as her husband served as Director of Youth, Hayward, as Associate Pastor at Porterville, and as Pastor of the San Francisco: Geneva Avenue, Jackson and Sutter Creek, Buri Buri, So. San Francisco, Aldersgate (formerly Buri Buri), Mill Valley, Lafayette, and (in retirement) Colfax churches. Gil retired in 1990.
She was a lifelong Methodist, involved in the Conference Youth Council and was the first laywoman elected president of the Retired Clergy Association. A travel highlight for her was a five-week trip she and Gil took to Europe, traveling throughout England and Scotland. Dottie was an excellent craftsperson, specializing in sewing and making custom doll clothes, both as a business and for churches. She and Gil were married for 66 years and considered themselves a team.
Dottie is survived by her husband, Gil; her three sons, Bruce Vieira of San Rafael, CA, Doug Vieira of Novato, CA, and Larry Vieira of Grass Valley, CA; and by four grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to Gil Vieira at 101 Ely Blvd. S., Apt. #271, Petaluma, CA 94954.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 1:30 p.m., at Mt. Tamalpais UMC, Mill Valley, CA.
Rev. Kim Smith will preside.
Gifts in memory of Dottie may be sent to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
Let us continue to give God thanks for Dottie’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
