Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our brother, Rev. Masayoshi Kawashima, died on Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Masayoshi began his ministry in 1972 in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He went on to serve in the New York and California-Pacific Conferences before transferring to the California-Nevada Conference in July of 1993. He served the Lake Park United Methodist Church before retiring in 2002.
Pastor Mas, as he was affectionately called, was known for his sweet, kind, and wonderful spirit. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and writing. He also had a love of music, often singing in the choir at church on Sundays and playing the upright bass.
Masayoshi is survived by his wife, Hope Kawashima, and by his two children, Mariya Yamamoto of Orlando, FL, and Rebekah Huna Wong of Fresno, CA, and by five grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to Hope Kawashima at 2993 E. Oak Haven Drive, Fresno, CA 93720.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2019 at 11 a.m., at the United Japanese Christian Church in Clovis, CA.
Gifts in honor of Masayoshi may be sent to support the children’s ministries at the United Japanese Christian Church, 136 N. Villa Avenue, Clovis, CA 93612, or to cancer research.
Let us continue to give God thanks for Masayoshi’s life and witness and hold his family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
