Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our sister, Betty Boswell, spouse of the late Rev. Robert Boswell, died on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Betty was a faithful companion as her husband served the following California churches in our Conference: Del Rey, Dos Palos, Hope in Mountain View, St. Paul’s in South San Francisco, and Los Gatos. Rev. Boswell also served with Betty’s great support as Executive Secretary for the Conference Board of Education, as District Superintendent of the Fresno District, and as Director of Development & Community Relations at the Good Samaritan Hospital of Santa Clara until retiring in 1982.
Sister Betty was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fresno, California where she was active in the Ruth Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a lifelong PEO sister (GK Chapter). She was also a dedicated and passionate San Francisco Giants fan. She was an avid reader and delighted in traveling the world with her husband Bob. Some of their favorite places to visit were Hawaii, Europe, Israel, Russia and Ashland, Oregon.
She had a gentle, quiet manner and carried herself with style and elegance. Everyone who knew her experienced her calm outward demeanor, but those who knew her best lovingly report that she was also a “ruthless” opponent at any card or board game!
Betty was predeceased by Bob in 2008 after 67 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Rev. Beverly Brook of Santa Cruz, California, Barbara “Bobbie” Vivian of Fresno, California, and Craig Boswell of Carmel Valley, California, by 5 grandchildren and by 10 great-grandchildren. Condolences may be sent to Rev. Beverly Brook at 150 Stoney Creek Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.
Gifts in memory of Betty may be sent to Poverello House, PO Box 12225, Fresno CA 93777 or online at www.poverellohouse.org
Let us continue to give God thanks for Betty’s life and witness and hold her family close in prayer. In our living and in our dying, we belong to God! (Romans 14:8)
