Update: Conference Climate Justice Ministries Task Force

The California-Nevada Climate Justice Ministries Task Force is making progress in accordance with the annual conference Recommendation mandating its formation. It now includes a diverse group of clergy and laity from around the conference but is still in the process of organizing itself.

The first official Task Force meeting will take place in August, where we will begin the process of “Discerning how the Conference can move forward in a coordinated way on ministries focused on climate justice and facilitating such efforts,” which is one of the goals as stated in the Recommendation.

The Task Force is also tasked with “Reaching out to Conference committees and local churches to gauge interest and current participation in creation care or climate justice ministries…” To this end, we invite anyone who is concerned about God’s creation or interested in faith-inspired education and action on climate change to contact us so that we can begin to get a sense of what is already going on in our churches.

Let us know if your church has a Green Team, Creation Care Circle, Social Concerns Committee, Missions Committee, Disaster Response Team, or individual congregational members who are concerned about climate change or who include education or action about climate change in their ministries, even in small ways. Send this info to our new Climate Justice Ministries Coordinator, Rev. Sharon Delgado, at revsher@earth-justice.org.

There are other ways that you can support these efforts even now.  Please check out and Like, Follow, and Share our new Cal-Nevada Climate Justice Ministries Task Force Facebook Page, so others will know what we are up to and be able to get involved.

Education:  “Your Money is Your Carbon” by Climate Activist and United Methodist Bill McKibben, from The Crucial Years, May 2022.

Action: Watch the Film “Dear President Biden: Our Climate Can’t Wait,” then take suggested actions.

Inspiration: “Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth… these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security, and women’s empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all.” – Ban Ki-moon, former UN Secretary General
