United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Virtual Summer Academy

Education is an integral part of the United Methodists Volunteers in Mission Program (UMVIM ).  Rather than meeting in person for trainings as the pandemic winds down, UMVIM jurisdiction coordinators around the US are offering virtual trainings for UMVIM team leaders, members and others interested in mission.

The Mission Academy starts July 26 and runs through Aug 7th (except Sunday August 1st) from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. PT.  Participants will be able to join top mission leaders from around the country for daily virtual sessions.

  • Roland Ferndandes, the General Secretary of Global Ministries, will deliver the keynote address on July 26.
  • Ronda Cordill, UMVIM Western Jurisdiction Coordinator will be presenting three sessions for the Academy.
  • The first class on ‘Animal Ministries’ on July 30th will feature Rev Calvin Hill from the Blackfeet United Methodist Parish in Browning MT and their equine mission, and co-location of animals during a disaster.
  • On July 31st, Ronda, and Tom Vencuss from UMCOR will discuss how UMVIM and UMCOR work together on all phases of a disaster.
  • The Western Jurisdiction will be featured in the session entitled ‘Mission Opportunities for Busy Working Adults’ as we have developed many local short-term projects throughout the jurisdiction.
