UMCOR Sunday March 19: Contribute to our United Methodist living legacy

A famous quote from Maya Angelou says, “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.”

UMCOR's “early in, last out” legacy is true for Hurricane Ian, one of the most devastating storms to hit the United States in years. Before the hurricane hit, UMCOR staff stayed in touch with the annual conferences that were likely to experience the storm and made preparations with them to minimize the damage.

For example, after the hurricane landed in Florida, Lara Martin, UMCOR’s director of U.S. Disaster Response, met with the call center team at the Florida Annual Conference to hear survivor stories, discuss needs and learn how resources were being deployed.

It’s time to meet with your leaders to get an update about how plans are shaping up for the UMCOR Sunday celebration.

Communicate your online giving to your members or promote umcgiving.org/UMCOR for online giving to this Special Sunday
Place the Pew Cards in the pew racks or in high-traffic areas. You may also place them in your visitor or new-member packets
Download the Offering Talk and Liturgy and print the Adult Bulletin Insert or Cover for worship. These resources will help your congregants know they are making a difference in the lives of persons who are empowered by their gifts to UMCOR Sunday
Grow generous and mission-minded adults by sharing the UMCOR Sunday Children’s Message and Bulletin Inserts with them. This is a great way to get children involved in mission
Select a UMCOR Sunday video from the UMCGiving YouTube channel [A1]to share with the congregation as they enter the sanctuary or to use during the offertory introduction
Share the Social Media Graphics on your social media platform(s). Tag church members and encourage them to share the videos with their family and friends
Customize the reminder copy below and use it on your social media platform(s) to remind church members about the March 19th celebration
Pray for those who are affected by disasters and for the ministry of UMCOR
Thank your members for their generosity
Plan to send the offering to your annual conference treasurer
