What if lay persons could use their interests and passion to grow their faith and impact the community? How would this transform your church?
The Changemaker Initiative “catalyze[s] people to be compassion-driven changemakers like Jesus in their churches, workplaces, neighborhoods, families, and communities. Through this fresh approach to discipleship, people come alive as they pursue a project making social impact.”
The Changemaker Initiative
Sound interesting?
The Changemaker Initiative isn’t meant to add to the pastor’s to-do list. It isn’t another church ministry that the church leadership needs to take on, either. It’s actually a way for ANYONE at the church, new or long-time member, to make a change in their community, neighborhood, workplace, or church. In fact, it turned out to be a great way to engage new people in ministry while growing their spiritual formation.
During the 2023 National Developers & Planters Gathering in Denver, Colorado, Kim Jones, a Los Altos UMC in Silicon Valley lay member, former Pediatrician, and co-founder of The Changemaker Initiative, shared her experience becoming a Changemaker Fellow and then leading others through the process. When she was a pediatrician, she wanted to address anxiety among youth. She used the Changemaker Initiative process to bring a group of parents together to help each other help their kids. It was a thriving ministry at her church that was cultivated from her interests and concerns.
