The Order of Deacons of the California-Nevada Annual Conference cordially invites you to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Order.

Due to the postponements of General Conference 2020, the general celebration will be held via ZOOM through Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, and all events are free.

The events include an Inaugural Lecture on Tuesday, April 13, 2021; Worship Service, Saturday, April 17, 2021; and the final event will be a panel discussion on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

We are planning a celebration of the 25th Anniversary during our Annual Conference later in the year.

For those who aren't familiar with what a Deacon is or what we do, I invite you to read the information below from the Global Ministry of Higher Education & Ministry. Deacons are clergy leaders called by God, authorized by the church, and ordained by a bishop to a lifetime ministry of word, service, compassion, and justice.
Deacons exemplify Christian discipleship, nurture others in their relationship to God and lead church people to respond to the needy, neglected, and marginalized world.
In the congregation, deacons teach, preach, officiate at funerals and weddings, offer pastoral care, assist the elder in administering Baptism and Holy Communion, lead discipleship development ministries and help laypeople identify and claim their ministries. Deacons lead the congregation in its servant ministry and equip and support all baptized Christians in their ministry. Through the Order of Deacons, The United Methodist Church affirms this historic, central, and distinct ministry.

Outside the church walls, deacons share the good news in word and their advocacy for the poor, neglected, oppressed, and discouraged; provide ministries of mercy, and invite Christians into these ministries.

Rev. Angela Brown, JD serves as the Chair of the Order of Deacons for California-Nevada Conference.
