After weeks of online worship Watsonville First UMC pastor, Robin Mathews-Johnson, felt something might be missing.
And of course it was - most of us have been missing the in between time on Sunday morning where we catch up with one another: the familiar smile, encouraging embrace and affirming high fives that happen during coffee hour - the other worship service on Sunday when we live our oneness in God through Jesus Christ.
Out of this void was born Online Fellowship Cup - an unstructured coffee hour from home that has been an out of the box success.
The stated purposes of the virtual zoom coffee hour are:
1. Drink a cup of coffee or tea and relax for a moment.
2. See and talk with some old and new friends from church.
3. Share some of our highs and lows as we shelter in place.
4. Offer our prayers of joy and concern.
5. Reaffirm our connectedness.
Last week was the second Online Fellowship Cup and folks from 2 years to 70 years are finding their way to this casual time of sharing. As with many of the adaptations made to bridge Shelter In Place over the past several months, Pastor Robin imagines that this and other virtual components that the Watsonville First family have developed will continue on well beyond this time of pandemic and into our new normal.
Join Pastor Robin and the Watsonville family this Sunday for a cup of community:
