Napa First UMC spotlighted: Making drone visits to

Napa Methodist Church was excited that the Napa Valley Register featured them on their front page last Sunday for their innovative “Just Say Hi” drone visiting program.

At a recent Church Council meeting the excitement of "seeing" people in online worship during the pandemic was being discussed and the video visits came up.

The chairperson of the meeting, Kathy Martin, noted that this should be in the city news. Because she had a prior relationship with a reporter, she reached out to see if there was interest in writing a fun story. The reporter loved the idea and went along with the team to take some photos and to experience the fun of "visiting".

Drone visits are the brainchild of Loie Whitmer.  Loie and her team have shown up at about 65-70 congregants’ homes since the program’s inception last September. They just love making people smile! New videos are shown each week in our online worship services.

It has meant the world to the congregation to be able to “see” one another’s joyful smiles and exuberant waves!
