On Sunday May 22nd, First UMC of Turlock will host a Tongan themed worship and luncheon to raise awareness and funds around the post-disaster situation in Tonga. The funds will go to the Annual Conference 2022 main offering supporting ongoing relief efforts in Tonga.
Pastor Tevita Vaikona, who serves Holy Cross UMC in Stockton and Linden UMC, and members of his congregations will share in the Tongan styled worship service which will include music and dance. He will also be on hand to host a Q & A session during the Tongan themed luncheon.
Turlock Pastor Steve Judson said, "The focus of the whole day is to raise awareness around the devastation in Tonga from the volcano and tsunami and raise funds for the relief offering at annual conference. We have also designated half of this year's Easter offering and our May loose coin offering to support Tonga. We hope to bring a generous offering to Annual Conference 2022 for the Tongan relief offering."
