Last month, the Patterson Federated Church came together with two other churches in the San-Joaquin Circuit of the Central Valley District, FUMC Modesto and FUMC Turlock, to collect items to be used in activity bags for 34 homeless children and youth. These children and youths are currently sheltering-in-place with their families in motels. This group covered a wide range of ages, consisting of six teenagers, twelve children, ten toddlers, and six babies.
When we sent out our call for donations, our congregations really delivered! We are proud to have turned in boxes full of board games, card games, coloring books, plush animals, toys, a couple of fun costumes, and many books covering a wide range of topics. Some of our members also donated money for this cause. We even received a beautiful succulent plant! We are infinitely grateful for the wonderful gifts they provided to help brighten some children’s days during these dark times.
We delivered these kind donations to two organizations. The activity bags will be assembled by the Stanislaus County Community Services Agency while the cash donations have been given to Family Promise, a non-profit that works with churches to shelter families in need.
