The California-Nevada Certified Lay Minister (CLM) training cohort came together March 17 - 19 at the conference center for the second of three in person training retreats.
The cohort began the 5 months long CLM training in January with a refreshed curriculum and a hybrid design that has included virtual and in person training. 3 in person retreats are spread across the course and google classroom's google meets will provide the virtual meeting space in between the retreats.
The second retreat content focused on scripture in preaching, which was led by Tevita Koroi; worship, which was led by Great Northern DS Blake Busick; and congregational care, which was led by Betty Weiser. Interim Associate Director of CLM & Lay Church Planting Coordinator April Sousa supported the retreat with worship and preaching resources as well as wonderful food for the weekend.
Interim Bishop Sally Dyck and Conference Lay Leader Micheal Pope visited with the group and El Camino Real DS Samuel Hong coached participants on sermon preparation and delivery.

Is this a calling for you?
The Book of Discipline describes the CLM this way: The certified lay minister is "called and equipped to conduct public worship, care for the congregation, assist in program leadership, develop new and existing faith communities, preach the word, lead small groups, or establish community outreach ministries as part of a ministry team with the supervision and support of a clergyperson.” (2016 BOD ¶268.1)
