Climate Justice Ministries November Report

The Cal-Nevada Climate Justice Ministries Task Force is planning ways to help our annual conference become informed, motivated, and organized for action. We are creating an email network of churches and individuals who are concerned about God’s creation or interested in faith-inspired education and action on climate change. Contact us with questions or join the network at climatejustice@cnumc.org.

This issue becomes ever more important as weather-related disasters become more frequent and extreme. As the next international climate conference (COP27) begins in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on November 6, climate justice groups around the world are demanding that governments and financial institutions take urgent climate action. A new United Nations report makes clear what is at stake with climate change and why incremental strategies are not enough: UN Report shows only urgent system-wide transformation can prevent climate disaster. "We had our chance to make incremental changes, but that time is over," said the UNEP director. "Only a root-and-branch transformation of our economies and societies can save us."

Inspiration
God as “the soul of the universe”

  • “God is in all things, and we are to see the Creator in the glass of every creature; that we should use and look upon nothing as separate from God, which indeed is a kind of practical Atheism; but, with a true magnificence of thought, survey heaven and earth, and all that is therein, as contained by God in the hollow of his hand, who by his intimate presence holds them all in being, who pervades and actuates the whole created frame, and is, in a true sense, the soul of the universe.” John Wesley, from Sermon 23, “Third Discourse on the Sermon on the Mount.”
  • The Pope, the Environmental Crisis, and Frontline Leaders | The Letter: Laudato Si Film. The Letter that stirred the world to the heart of creation, Laudato Si is now a full length film on youtube. View the film and learn more about how the film was made, and why, from the director. A human face on climate change from Earthbeat.
