“Praise God!” exclaimed Rev. Motoe Yamada Foor, pastor at Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, in response to pieces coming together on a Sacramento Pentecost Circuit video project. “We are so excited to offer this to our local congregations who haven’t had the resources to do something like this alone.”
Local churches are collaborating to create an innovative weekly Children’s Worship experience online. The series will feature their own clergy, lay people and children presenting faith-based messages and music for pre-school to 6th grade children. The 20-minute-long worship experience will vary from Sunday to Sunday depending on the submission of local video footage from area UMC congregations.
“We hope this will connect children with Jesus when church buildings are closed,” stated Yamada Foor, leader of the Pentecost Circuit, who encourages local and interested churches within the CNUMC to sign up for the service which begins on Sunday, May 31 (Pentecost Sunday) and continues until Sunday, August 16, 2020.
Participation in the project has various levels of signups including: 1) watching; 2) contributing videos; and/ or, 3) contributing funds. To sign up, click the link:
“We are thankful for the support of the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry,” added Yamada Foor who is actively seeking talents throughout the conference to contribute gifts in drama, music and storytelling. Important for connection, children need to see faces of people they know in their churches and so participating churches are encouraged to send videos from members encouraging children in their faith. However, guests from throughout the conference are invited to also send videos for the project.
“We are also thankful to JB Brayfindley for her time and service in producing the worship service.” Added Yamada Foor. JB Brayfindley from Sacramento First UMC is serving as video editor. Video clips can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org via WeTransfer at https://wetransfer.com. Deadline for Sundays is a week prior on Monday by noon.
