As part of the California-Nevada Conference commitment to helping survivors of the recent wildfires, three of our churches were each awarded $10,000 grants to continue to serve those who need short-term assistance. Sierra Pines UMC, Portola UMC and El Dorado County Federated are the lead churches on helping survivors from the River Fire, the Dixie Fire and the Caldor Fire respectively.
These grants from the Conference Disaster Response Fund will be used to assist with temporary housing, food, pressing household needs and other immediate survivor assistance. All three churches, along with others in their circuits, are at the forefront of our Conference wildfire relief and recovery efforts. In addition to modest financial assistance, above all else, they offer spiritual and emotional support, a ministry of presence, to those traumatized by the fires.
Other churches participating in providing survivor assistance related to these fires include: Grass Valley UMC, Colfax UMC, Foothill UMC, Susanville UMC, Quincy UMC, Taylorsville UMC, Chester UMC and Greenville UMC.
