Bishop Minerva G. CarcaƱo announces new Assistant to the Bishop: Rev. Mike Harrell

Clergy and laity of the California-Nevada Conference, blessings to you as we move into this time of welcomed longer days and hoped for relief from the pandemic we have lived in for much too long. After much prayer and consideration, I have determined that I can better serve you with the help of an Assistant to the Bishop.

This person will assist me in the administration and oversight of the Episcopal Office. My office will continue to also be staffed by Senior Administrative Assistant Sandy Royall who provides support for the Episcopal Office as well as the office of our Executive Director of Connectional Ministries. My hope is that with this high-level Assistant to the Bishop I will be more able to lead the California-Nevada Conference in strategic ways, be more available to walk alongside our district superintendents and executive staff members as they do their missional and administrative work, be more present in our connectional and congregational ministries, as well as more available to our clergy.

In consultation with our Appointive Cabinet and with their full support, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Mike Harrell as Assistant to the Bishop effective July 1, 2021.  I am drawn to and inspired by Pastor Mike’s deep Christian spirituality, his unquestionable commitment to The United Methodist Church through the California-Nevada Conference, his humility and collegiality and his excellent administrative skills.  In defining this position of service and praying for the one who would fill it, I was time and again struck by the movement of the Holy Spirit throughout the process.

Please join me in welcoming, affirming and praying for Rev. Mike Harrell as he assumes his new position come July.  Pray for his family as well.  I am so very grateful for the support that his spouse Kara and their daughters have already given to this coming transition, praying with us all along the way and committing to this change that will impact their lives as well.
